As an age-old Final Fantasy VII fan, I feel obligated to open this entry by disavowing much of the Compilation contributions to this gaming legend; Original flavour Aerith Gainsborough was most assuredly not afraid of the sky, and did not acquire most of her defining characteristics by a chance meeting with a guy she spent most of her time hiding behind.  Rather, she was an uncannily sunny girl who was clever, capable, and surprisingly flirtatious, in defiance of the typical White Mage archetype with which she tends to be typecast.  She is private about her struggles with her identity over the course of the game, and the more she understands, the more she feels compelled to take matters into her own hands.  There is a lot of debate over the meaning and significance of her death to this day, but one thing no one can argue is that the woman went to face it with a plan - one that wound up saving the world, to boot.

See, I’ve never though Cloud couldn’t move on. When someone you love is taken from you, a part of you will always still love them and long for them, but that doesn’t mean you can’t move on. I just don’t like the feelings between Cloud and Aeris being completely discounted as nothing, is all.
